
Chikmangaluru: The number of Covid cases are increasing as the state is struck by the second wave. The lockdown imposed in the state has affected the poor and destitute as they find it difficult to find food during this testing time. Youths from Chikamagalur, opens refugee centres for these destitute.
At Chikmagalur’s Ambedkar Residential School, more than 25 refugees have already sought refuge. It is in collaboration with the district administration, the refugee centre was created. The youths bring beggars and destitute to the centre and provide them with food and shelter. They will be provided with bath, clothing, bed sheets, and towels by the organisation.
Workers and poor people from all over the state are present in the shelter, including those from Bihar, Kerala, Belgaum, Bellary, Hassan, and Shimoga. Until the lockdown is lifted, the association decide to look after all those who have sheltered.
There were over 60 refugees in the first wave of Corona, and the Association was able to provide jobs for 30 of them. Last year, the refugee centre was open for more than 45 days with the aim of ensuring that no one went hungry.
