Chikkamagaluru: As the drought woes persist in Chikkamagaluru district, exacerbating the already dire situation for farmers and residents, a disturbing incident has come to light. A case has been registered against a Gram Panchayat development officer for allegedly diverting drinking water meant for public use to a private garden.
The accused, identified as Eswaraiah from Tarikere taluk’s Lingadahalli village, is facing charges under IPC sections 427 and 430 for damaging public property. The case has been filed at the Lingadalli police station following a complaint lodged by villagers.
According to the allegations, Eswaraiah purportedly facilitated the illegal supply of drinking water to his coffee estate over a span of three months. The water, drawn from Shanti Falls near Kemmannu Gundi, was allegedly diverted through a pipe intended for drinking water supply, causing discontent among local residents.
In response to the villagers’ outcry and accusations against the GP secretary , authorities have initiated legal proceedings to address the issue . The incident has sparked outrage among the affected community members, who are demanding swift and decisive action against those responsible for the unauthorized use of precious drinking water resources.
