Chikkamagaluru: The accused in the kidnapping of businessman Tejas Gowda and Suicide of DySP Kallappa Handibhag cases was moved to Gulbarga prison from Chikkamagaluru amid tight security on January 29.
Praveen Khandya facing 33 cases against him has been booked under Goonda act was shifted to Gulbarga based on the directive of Chikkamagaluru Deputy Commissioner Sathyavati.
He had gone absconding after DySP Kallappa Handibhag committed suicide. But, soon he had obtained anticipatory bail in DySP suicide case to escape arrest.
In 2011, he had obstructed police in delivering their duties during Datta Jayanthi celebrations. He had abstained from attending court proceedings for the many years despite several notices from the court. Police had arrested him in this case and later Corps of Detectives (CID) sought permission from the court to take him into their custody. After the court granted permission, he was interrogated by the police between January 6 to16.
Goonda Act was invoked against him as there was no change in his behavioral pattern.
