Chikkamagaluru: Six families landed in streets after they were driven out of their rented accommodation by the owner  when they failed to pay the rent.

Six families residing at Uppalli layout are now taking shelter under a tree in the private land behind joy coffee curing works.

Some of the members are suffering from heart related complaints whereas 12 children are facing the brunt of cold weather.

Their unexpected eviction was due to non-payment of rental dues for months. Some nearby residents termed the owner’s decision as inhuman because of the suffering the women, children and sick had to undergo in the open air.

All of the families are economically backward families, who can hardly make their both ends meet. Now, even a roof over their heads being taken away, they are gazing at the open skies as uncertainty looms large over them.
