Raichur: A female laboratory technician succumbed to burn injuries at a government hospital in Hatti town, Lingasugur taluk. Investigations have indicated that the incident was not a suicide but a case of murder. The Hatti police apprehended the two suspects approximately 20 days after the tragic event.
The woman who passed away was engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a young man of her son’s age. She was summoned in the late hours and subsequently murdered under the guise of engaging in witchcraft. The individuals responsible for the act have been recognized as Sameer Sohail (23) and Mohammad Kaif (23).
During the incident, the attackers lured the victim by requesting a midnight religious ritual, during which they sprinkled turmeric and kumkum on cash and gold ornaments. Subsequently, they exploited the pretense of the ritual to commit the murder. Following the crime, one of the accused, Sameer, set fire to the victim near her residence. He proceeded to seize Rs 10 lakh in cash and gold ornaments before fleeing in his car, accompanied by his accomplice, Mohammad Kaif.
The authorities confiscated Rs 7.49 lakh in cash, 163 grams of gold jewelry valued at Rs 9.7 lakh, a car, a motorcycle, and additional items totaling Rs 22 lakh from the suspects. A murder case has been officially filed at the Hatti police station.
