Raichur:“Protest Erupts in Raichur Over Dargah Arch Construction; BJP, Sri Rama Sene, and Bajrang Dal Activists Join”
“Tension in City as BJP, Sri Ram Sene, Bajrang Dal Protest Arch Construction at Syed Shah Alauddin Dargah”
“The protesting BJP workers claim that the City Municipal Council (CMC) initiated arch construction at the ASI site without obtaining permission from the central agency.”
“They urged the CMC to halt the construction activity promptly.”
“The CMC undertook the construction without ASI permission, and there’s uncertainty about the grant allocation. They initiated work unlawfully under other/miscellaneous categories. Officials commenced work without my knowledge,” MLA Dr. Shivraj stated.
The BJP legislator stated, “Commencing work without a thorough site inspection is inappropriate. I’ve advised the concerned officials to maintain the status quo.”
Furthermore, the ASI provided a letter indicating that the concerned work site belonged to them, and this letter was handed over to the CMC.
Deputy Commissioner Chandrashekar Nayak clarified that there is no ASI site in Raichur district. However, he mentioned that there are a few sites under the state archaeological department, but it is uncertain if the dargah belongs to it.
Tense moments unfolded as agitating BJP workers and a group of Muslims engaged in provocative sloganeering. Prompt police action swiftly addressed the situation.
