Kalaburgi: The question on everyone’s mind in Kalaburgi’s political circles is whether former BJP MLA from Afzalpur, Malikayya Guttedar, will join the Congress.
Malikayya, reportedly upset following his younger brother Nithin Guttedar joining the BJP, he recently met KPCC president DCM DK Shivakumar at his residence, indicating his potential next political move.
In the previous election, Nithin contested as an independent from the Afzalpur constituency, gaining over 50,000 votes, resulting in his brother’s defeat.
Sources suggest that DK Shivakumar has extended an invitation to Malikayya, to which he has responded positively. M Y Patil, Congress MLA from Afzalpur, has not yet responded to this development and is unlikely to oppose Malikayya’s potential entry into the Congress.
If all goes according to plan, Malikayya may join the party during an election rally organized at the NV Grounds in Kalaburgi this afternoon, in the presence of AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge. Kharge’s son-in-law is contesting the Lok Sabha election from the Kalaburgi Lok Sabha seat, and Malikayya’s inclusion in the party is expected to boost support for the Congress candidate.”
