Koppal: Stone inscription found at Gangavathi

Koppal: A stone inscription containing information about the Anegondi Kingdom, which existed after the fall of Vijayanagara Empire till the arrival of the British, has been found at Sanapura Village in Gangavathi Taluk of the District.

The inscription of Rani Kuppamma of Anegondi Narapathi Samsthana written by the historian of Gangavathi has been researched by Dr. Sharanabasappa Kolkar.

The inscription was found near Gangaparameshwari Temple on the left side of the Dam built on the Tungabhadra River in Sanapur Village.

The inscription, which has 12 lines, refers to the year of 1309. According to Rani Kuppamma, the Temple was constructed by Nandyal Narayana Raja, who was his Personal Secretary at the behest of Sriranga Devaraya Maharaya.
