Koppal: A seven-year-old bear fell into the cage of the Forest Department at Gaddi Village in Gangavathi Taluk of the District on Tuesday November 22 at 11.00 pm.

Over the past several months, there has been an increase in the number of bears in Gaddi, Udumakkal, Agoli, Vittalapura and Benakal areas, where there have been incidents of attacks and injuries to those going to the fields and safeguarding for crops at night.

On the insistence of the public, the Forest Department had planned to capture bears and leopards by placing cages at various places including Gaddi Village. The bear fell into a cage in Gaddi Village on the night of Tuesday.

Conservator of Forests Shivaraj Meti said that the captured bear has been released to the newly opened Gudekote Bear Sanctuary in Ballari District after a medical examination.
