In this all Hindu village, Muharram will be celebrated after fast on Tuesday

Koppal: Murlapura village which is located 14 kilometres from the taluk and district headquarters of Koppal has 800 houses. All these households belong to the Hindus, but every year Muharram is celebrated in a mosque built by Hindus here. Many of the villagers also sit fast for a day, making this village a perfect example for communal harmony.

According to the locals, in this village, Hindus follow the rituals of Muharram. Many prepare sweets as part of the festive celebrations. Tiger dance is performed as a major attraction of this celebration.
According to Basavaraj Hudegannavar, a local resident, till 1992 the mosque was in a shed. But now, a full-fledged structure has been built. “People believe in this mosque a lot. Even though there are no moulvis or Muslims in the village, the villagers are following the Muslim rituals,” he concluded.
