Kalaburagi: Three Kerala students accused of ragging a Dalit student have been rejected bail by a sessions court here on Wednesday. The Second Additional District Sessions Judge M Premavathi rejected the interim bail applied by Lakshmi, Athira and Krishna Priya who were taken into custody on June 24.
Kalaburagi student attempted suicide, not ragged by seniors: Probe team-1It may be recalled that the trio allegedly ragged Dalit first semester student K.P. Ashwathi for more than a month by forcing her drink toilet cleaner on May 5. Three accused were sent to 14 day judicial custody.

The victim developed health complications on May 9, hence she was rushed to a local hospital. Subsequently she was sent to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital and her condition is said to be critical.

The defence lawyer had sought the bail for the three accused students as they have to appear for exams in the second week of July. Moreover he had argued that there was a lapse on the part of the police in recording the student in the medico legal case.

However the prosecution lawyer opposed the bail plea. He submitted that the court could decide on the bail plea only after the special investigation team, led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police Jahnavi, which has gone to Kerala and recorded her statement, submitted its report.
