Kalburgi: “Once again, the proposal to consider Kalburgi for smart city project will be sent to the central government. If Centre rejects it, then the city will be taken into consideration for smart city project with the help of state government itself and the project will be implemented”, said district in-charge minister Qamarul Islam.
Speaking to reporters here in Kalburgi, the minister said that the compensation to the deceased pourakarmikas while working in underground drainages (UGD) has been increased to Rs 10 lakhs from Rs 5 lakhs. At the same time, additional salary given for 15 days of work has been increased upto 21 days, he said.

“Rs 50 crores has been sanctioned to build houses for the pourakarmikas in the state. Last year, the amount released for the same was Rs 20 crore. State government has concern for the pourakarmikas as they play important role in maintaining cleanliness in the society”, he added.

He further explained that mere vowing for cleanliness is not enough, there should be practical implementation in Kalburgi and only then Gandhiji’s dream of a clean India will be fulfilled. “All the members of the city corporation should join hands in this work. Government is not short of money. All the necessary equipments needed for sanitation will be provided. It is the duty of every citizen to keep their town clean”, he said.
