Basavakalyan (Bidar): In a tragic incident, six members of a family perished when their house collapsed on them in Basavakalyan of the Bidar district, on Wednesday, June 26 morning.

Of the six that died, four were children. The deceased have been identified as Nadim Yusuf Shaikh (42), his wife Faridabanu (36) and their children Ashabanu (15), Mehtabi (13), Faizan Ali (5) and Farhan Ali (3).

The old house in which the family was staying, was located at Chilla Galli ward-6 in Basavakalyan town.

Witnesses say that it is possible that the old house was damaged in the recent rains that lashed the region. They believe that the house collapsed on the family when they were asleep.

The bodies were pulled out from under the debris by the police and neighbours during the rescue operation.

Minister of Cooperatives Bandeppa Kashempur also visited the spot later in the day.

The Basavakalyan police have registered a case in this regard.
