Bidar: With scorching temperatures gripping all districts of North Karnataka, a worker employed under the MGNREGA scheme in Bidar district reportedly succumbed to suspected heatstroke.

The deceased, Mallappa Shankar from Kitta village in Basavakalyan taluk, was reportedly working on a digging project in a forested area under the MGNREGA scheme.

Sources claim Mallappa Shankar suffered a heart attack at the worksite. He had reportedly finished lunch and was about to take a break when he fell unconscious. Local villagers rushed him to the Patil Hospital in Basavakalyan, but he was declared dead on arrival.

An autopsy was conducted later at the government hospital. Officials from the Basavakalyan taluk panchayat’s executive office and the MGNREGA department visited the site. The officers assured the relatives of the deceased of assistance in obtaining any government benefits they are entitled to.
