Bidar: Hassan Sheikh (36), a ganja smuggler has been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment here by the Principal district and Sessions court on Tuesday.

Hassan, a resident of Jannat Nagar in Hubballi was arrested by the sub-inspector of excise on Janawada Road in March 2012 and 25 kilograms of ganja was seized from him.

A fine of Rs. 1 lakh was slapped on the accused by Judge Hanchate Sanjiv Kumar for smuggling the banned substance three years ago.

He faced charges under the Narcotics drugs and psychotropic substances Act. Public prosecutor Ramachandra Lamani argued for Karnataka.
