Hubballi: The villagers in Gadag district during Chief Minister’s drought tour, raised slogans demanding payment under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) here on April 27.
The villagers also alleged that people are migrating towards urban areas due to drought in the villages and demanded more drought relief measures.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah who was in Gadag district, inspected the historic Magadi lake.
He also took officials to task for providing false information with regard to MGNREGS scheme and asked them to achieve targets under the job guarantee scheme within a stipulated period. The deputy conservator of forest Yashpal Ksheerasagar was reprimanded for not knowing Kannada language.
The officials were asked to complete setting up of water purification plants in all villages. He asked them to take up de-silting of 51 lakes on war footing basis.
The officials of the district provided first-hand information on several problems including fodder and drinking water scarcity during CM’s visit. Siddaramaiah directed them to give more priority for water harvesting schemes before the onset of the monsoon.
