Hubballi: Members of the Dharwad Banjara Samaj Sangh held a postcard campaign demanding the government to consider their traditional settlements “Lambani Tandas” as revenue villages.

The Sangh has decided to hold a campaign to urge the President of India to give his consent to the Karnataka Land Reforms Bill-2016 that the state government has passed to bring in some land reforms initiatives.

These include providing revenue village status for Tandas across the state and also giving ownership of the lands to those residing in the hamlets and other scheduled community settlements like Hadi, Hatti, Palli, Palya and others.

Members of the community held a demonstration near the head post office here and later posted the postcards addressed to the President of India. Although the Lambani community members have been residing in those Tandas since decades, they do not have the ownership of the land.

Due to the absence of revenue village status and title deeds, the people living in Tandas have been deprived of the benefits of the government welfare programmes, besides the opportunity to cultivate government lands. As a result, the entire community was subjected to abject poverty, they said.
