Hubballi: Ashwini Majjagi, who was elected the mayor of the twin cities on Friday, will be embracing social media platforms to strike a rapport with citizens and gauge the gravity of civic problems.

The 31-year-old Majjagi is in her second consecutive term of representing ward-27 and her husband, Tippanna Majjagi, is a former corporator.

“My top priority will be to launch a solid waste management system that goes beyond mere dumping of garbage. There will be no compromise on cleanliness,” explains Majjagi.

Hoping to revive the finances of a floundering HDMC, the MBA graduate points out that the hike in property tax, announced by Hiremath on February 28, will help rake in additional revenue as well as more grants from the State Finance Commission.

On plans for the twin cities’ ‘neglected’ IT-BT sector, Majjagi says she will seek details from officials concerned and take up the issue on a priority basis.

During the elections, BJP bagged both the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor’s post in Hubballi-Dharwad here on March 6. Ashwini Majjagi of the BJP, who got 38 votes against the 27 of Shaila Kamaraddi of the Congress, was declared elected Mayor. Smita Jadhav of the BJP too got 38 votes to defeat Abdul Vahab Mulla of the Congress who secured 27 votes.
