Hubballi: The State Government has decided to approach the Union Government to seek a relaxation of the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms to improve eco-tourism along Karnataka’s coastline.

Despite CRZ guidelines prohibit development within 200 metres of the shore, several tourism developers have applied for authorisation to create facilities closer to the shore. The announcement in the budget has given hope to eco-tourism operators in the coastal districts.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday March 4 also announced the establishment of an eco-tourism centre at Tadadi port. The government has also announced that 400 tourist guides working in Hampi and other tourist destinations will be paid Rs. 2,000 per month.

CM Bommai further said that the Central Government’s ‘Adopt a Monument’ scheme will be popularised in Karnataka to boost tourism.
