Hubballi: The state government has decided to hand over the cricket betting case to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to ensure that the guilty are brought to book, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah
“I gave strict instruction to the Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner to take action against those who are involved in the cricket betting racket. Following this, a DCP and two constables were immediately suspended. Further investigation will be done by the CID.”, the CM added.
To a query regarding police booking a case against the staff of a private TV channel which conducted a sting operation to expose the betting racket, the CM said complaints were lodged from both sides at the police station and added that the guilty will be punished.
The case of cricket betting racket, which was busted recently, took a new turn on Saturday with the CID police conducting a raid on the houses of police constables who were suspended in connection with the case.
According to sources, the team came across a diary which had telephone numbers of those involved in betting and some papers having bank account details. Narendra, Kalwad and DCP (Law and Order) Hanumantaraya were suspended after a sting exposed them of cutting a deal with fake cricket betters.
CID officials raided suspended City Armed Reserve Police (CAR) constable Basavaraj Korvar’s house who was behind the sting.
