Mandya: Pro-Kannada groups and farmers have been demonstrating against the allocation of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. In Mandya district, farmers have been staging daily protests to highlight their concerns to the government, but the water release has continued unabated.
Demonstrations persist in multiple taluk headquarters, including Mandya and Srirangapatna. In these protests, farmers are adopting a unique approach, staging half-naked demonstrations while carrying slabs, sticks, empty pots, and more.
In Mandya, a farmer attempted to capture the government’s attention through an unconventional protest, where he symbolically intended to be buried alive in his own field.
The government is burying farmers alive by releasing water to Tamil Nadu. We have been raising anti-inflammatory slogans for so long. But from now on we will raise slogans in their favour. Because whatever we do, the government will not stop releasing water to Tamil Nadu.
The reservoir is rejuvenating thanks to the blessing of rain. Rather than endangering our farmers, the call was for the government to cease the water release.
