Mangaluru: During the press day which is held in memory of Mangalore News, the first Kannada newspaper, Member of Vidhan Parishad and D.K. District Congress President Harish Kumar said that the history of this newspaper and its editor Dr. Herman Moegling should be brought before the people.
He spoke at the press day and Dr. Herman Moegling’s commemoration program organized by the Karnataka Journalist Union in Balmath Theological College premises, Mangalore.
Harish Kumar opined that the achievement of Hermann Mögling who started a newspaper amidst challenges 180 years ago, his service commitment in starting schools will always be remembered.
Principal of Karnataka Theological College Dr. H.M.Watson said that since there are no memorials in Mangalore in the name of Herman Mögling, who started the first newspaper in Kannada, he requested that a road and a circle in the city should be named after Herman Mögling.
Today’s dotcom coordinator and social activist Umar UH, who participated as the chief guest, wished him well.
Harish Bantwal, President of Karnataka Journalist Union D.K.Zilla Samuti said that every year the work of paying tribute to Myogling is done by the union at the place where the Mangalore Samachara newspaper started.
General Secretary of Journalist Union Taranath Gatti welcomed and felicitated Kapikad. Union office bearers Ishwar Varanasi, Giridhar Shetty, Hamid Vitla participated. Office bearers of various organizations like Shubodaya Alva, Yogeesh, Shantala Gatti were present.
