Udupi: A youth was assaulted by a gang of men for speaking to a girl from another faith, on Wednesday, February 1.

The victim is Chetan Shriyan (21). He was talking to a girl near Our Lady of Good Health Church near Shirva when the incident occurred.

Sources said that Chetan Shriyan a resident of Mattu, Katpadi is alleged to be a close friend of a girl from another faith residing near Shirva.

The two were found roaming near the Church as the annual feast was on. Spotting the two, the miscreants arrived in a car and assaulted Chethan.

Later, he was taken to a hospital by his friends.

A case has been registered in Shirva Police Station.
