
Udupi: The leaders of the Vishwakarma community here submitted a memorandum to the District Police at SP office on August 1, complaining about the “humiliating” messages about the community at large being circulated on social media platforms and demanded action against such persons.
The petition said that Kurkalu Pradeep Shetty and Bharath Alva had posted messages insulting the Vishwakarma Community in WhatsApp groups. “These objectionable messages are hurting the reputation and respect of the community, who are traditionally employed as skilled carpenters. There are a large number of carpenters who work for their livelihood”, it says.
The leaders of the carpenters’ union appealed to the district police to take stern action against the culprits who were discrediting the community.
Union President Nittur Gokul Acharya, Secretary Jayakar Acharya, legal advisor H M Gangadher Acharya, Honorary President Balkur Gopala Acharya, Vice President Achyuth Acharya and Ramesh Acharya were present.
