Urban Minister Sorake inaugurates National Consumer Day

Udupi: Consumer forums will be available in the large numbers in order to avail maximum benefits to the consumers, Vinay Kumar Sorake, urban development minister said here while inaugurating the ‘National Consumer Rights Day’.

The District Administration and Basrur Consumers Forum organised the theme for the day as ‘Consumer Empowerment – Promotion of Consumer Rights’ here on December 24.

Nearly 10,000 applications for land survey were pending. Rural consumers are unaware of their rights; therefore their problem will be tackled while holding Revenue Adalats.

“We are holding 10 Revenue Adalats every month so as to dispose the files. Efforts are being made to deal with land survey applications every fortnightly,” he said.

He said as many as 57,000 BPL cards were given in the past one and half years. As many as 20,000 applications are pending and measures would be taken for the early disposal of these pending applications.

He also added that the government has also decided to launch all-round tourism development projects. A tourism corridor will be envisioned from Shirva to Malpe. He added that Rs 9.92 is earmarked for the development of Morarji Desai schools in the district.
