Udupi: The newly constructed Hi-tech Fish Market building for women fish mongers was inaugurated at Udupi, near Diana Circle here on Saturday, January 14. Minister of Fisheries, Sports and Youth Empowerment Pramod Madhwaraj inaugurated the building.

After the inauguration, Pramod Madhwaraj said that there is five year long history into the construction of the new fish market building. “The BJP party run Municipality as well as at the state level, proposed to construct the new building. There was no work was done to construct the new building under BJP. After the congress came into the power, a fish market was established at Beedinagudde on a temporary basis. There was plenty of reasons to delay in constructing Hi-tech first market for women. At last it is on Makarasankranthi day, the new Hi-tech fish market established with the cost of Rs. 3.38 crores.
There are 154 retail vendors, 13 dry vendors, 4 whole vendors and three shell fish vendors counters established. A total of 174 vendors can sell the fish including dry fish.
Costal Development Authority Secretary Pradeep D’Souza welcomed the gatherings. Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje Udupi Municipal Council President, Kota Srinivas Poojary MLC, Smt Sandhya Tilakraj, Geetha Ravi Sheth Municipal councilor, Baby S. Salian Udupi Taluk Dry Fish Trading Association, D. Manjunathaiah Udupi Municipal Commissioner, Sathish Amin Padukeri, Narasimha Murthy President of Udupi Urban Development Authority and other among were present on the dais.
Pramod Madhwaraj was felicitated by the fish vendors and other guests on the dais. Confirmation certificate were distributed to the women fish vendors during the occasion, Sathish Shetty compered the programme.
