Udupi: Deputy Commissioner Kurma Rao M. said that as per the Central Government Gazette Notification, the toll in Surathkal has been merged with Hejamady toll. The date of getting the revised rate is yet to be decided.
Addressing the press conference he said that as per the request of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), adequate security will be provided to Hejamady Gate. People’s representatives have objected to the hike in toll rates. Their meeting will be called soon, he said.
He said as of now there have been no complaints or objections in this regard from the public or any organisations. The Highways Authority will inform the District Administration locally and also before starting the revised fare collection. We will follow the instructions of the Central Government,” he said.
District Superintendent of Police, Hakay Akshay Machindra said that we have received information about the planning of protest at tollgate. There would be no problem for protest democratically. However, blocking the vehicles traffic on the highway, any damage to property or any other problems for the public is not tolerated and action will be taken against those who violate the law. We have already held a police meeting at Kaup Police station in regard to the toll gate issue and given necessary information, he said.
