Udupi: The George Fernandes Road, which connects the national highway from Indrali to the railway station, was repaired some time back. Now, due to poor quality of work, the concrete road has cracked. The public is angry that public money has been wasted.
Nithyananda Ulkadu, convenor of the civic body, had drawn the attention of the authorities with a novel protest demanding the repair of George Fernandes Road, which was lying unfit for vehicular traffic due to a pothole. Subsequently, concretisation was sanctioned from the Railway Health Centre to the railway station.It has been a few days since the work was completed. But the road is cracked here and there. Thousands of vehicles are plying here and now we have to be afraid of taking vehicles. Citizens are angry that the road, which has been constructed at a cost of crores of rupees, has been damaged in a few days. The department has demanded that the entire road construction money be recovered from the contractor.
Social worker Nithyananda Ulkadu demanded that the Deputy Commissioner should immediately visit the spot and inspect the work and take appropriate action after ascertaining the veracity of the work.
