Udupi: 'Mobile crematorium for disposal of animal carcasses'

Udupi: Deputy Commissioner Kurma Rao M. has directed the officials of the Animal Husbandry Department to make mobile crematorium arrangements for the environmentally acceptable disposal of the carcasses of the animals that die as orphans in Udupi District.

He was speaking after presiding over a meeting of the Animal Daya Sangha held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Auditorium at Rajathadri in the City.

As regards the complaints of animal lovers that there are objections from the public to dispose of the carcasses of animals that die due to accidents and other reasons on National Highways and roadsides in the District in public places. Deputy Commissioner instructed them to submit a necessary proposal to the Animal Husbandry Department for the same.

“Ensure that there is adequate quantity of fodder and water storage in the gaushalas so that there is no shortage of fodder and water for the cattle during the summer,” he said.

He asked all Gram Panchayats in the District to appoint animal volunteers and animal protectors for the protection of animals and to compulsorily register animal vending shops and dog breeding centres in the District with the Animal Welfare Board.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry Department Dr. Shankar Shetty, Assistant Conservator of Forests Clifford Lobo, and Members of the Animal Daya Sangha were present.
