Udupi : P.B. Acharya who has been appointed the new Governor of Nagaland with additional responsibility of Tripura hails from Udupi district. He is not only the first person from the Gowda Saraswat Community of the region to be elevated to the top post of Governor but is also the second leader from the coastal district, next only to Margaret Alva to hold the post.

Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya (P.B.Acharya) has served the BJP, RSS and the ABVP in various capacities and was the National Secretary of the BJP in-charge of party affairs in north east states when Narendra Modi was the party’s national general secretary between 1995 to 2000.
An alumnus of MGM College of Udupi, Acharya was among the first batch of students of the institution. He was associated with the RSS since an early age and was a businessman in Mumbai where he moved after his graduation. He has served as National Chief of ABVP and also as Senate Member of Mumbai University for almst three decades.
Apart from his mother tongue Konkani,PB Acharya is also fluent in Tulu, Kannada, Hindi and English.
