Udupi: The Udupi district reported liquor sales of a whopping Rs 1.50 crores across 103 wine shops in just four hours on Monday, May 4.
It can be recalled that liquor stores across the country, except for those located in containment zones, were allowed to open for the first time today since the nationwide COVID-19 lockdown was imposed on March 24.
A statement released by the District Excise Department on Monday confirmed the news about the liquor sale collections.
The statement informed that a total of 41,927 litres of liquor worth Rs 1.25 crores and 15,872 litres of beer were sold on Monday.
According to reports, generally, the district sees a sale of 4,160 boxes of liquor a day on average. However, on Monday, 4,850 boxes were sold within four hours!
Meanwhile, the state excise department recorded revenue of a whopping Rs 45 crores on Monday.
