Udupi bankers discuss progress during the second quarter of 2017-18

Manipal: The quarterly meeting of the District-level Review Committee for Banking in Udupi district was held on December 21 at the Dr. V S Acharya meeting hall, Zilla Panchayat, Rajathadri here under the chairmanship of Shivanand Kapasi, Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Panchayat, Udupi district.

In his key note address, S S Hegde, Deputy General Manager, Syndicate Bank, Regional Office, Udupi informed that during the second quarter, the total deposits of the banking sector in the district stood at Rs 21,530 Crore registering a 13.51 percent YOY growth and the total advances stood at Rs 10,730 Crore with YOY growth of 8.68 percent as on September 30 with CD ratio of 49.84 percent.

By the end of the second quarter of the year 2017-18, banks disbursed loans to the extent of Rs 3667 crores against the annual target of Rs 7,340.02 Crore, thus recording an achievement of 50 percent. Of the total disbursements, Rs 1,337 Crore was disbursed to Agriculture sector, Rs. 911 Crore was disbursed to Micro and Small and Medium enterprises, Rs 43.11 Crore to Educational sector, Rs 219.22 Crore to housing and Rs 310.73 Crore to other priority sectors. Thus the total disbursal under Priority sector was Rs 2,820.75 Crore (43%) as against the annual target of Rs 6,520.10 Crore. In all, Rs 845.95 Crore was disbursed to non priority sector against a target of Rs 819.92 Crore.

Out of the advances outstanding in the district, the share of credit for the upliftment of the weaker sections (SC/ST, SF/MF SHG DRI Government Schemes etc) was Rs 820.11 Crore covering 84,640 beneficiaries. At the end of the review period, 45,717 beneficiaries belonging to Minority Communities have been given financial assistance to the extent of Rs 974.29 Crore.

Further, the number of women financed by banks stood at 1,37,655 with an outstanding amount of Rs 2,425.78 Crore, which was 22.60 percent of the total advances.

The total amount of education loans disbursed during the quarter was Rs 28.07 Crore covering 2,742 students.

Presenting the progress under Special Focused Scheme LDCM, Francis Borgia informed the house that under the Kisan Credit Card scheme Rs 215.18 Crore was disbursed upto the quarter end covering 20,011 cardholders.

S Ramesh, AGM (DD), NABARD, reviewed the implementation of the District Credit Plan during the second quarter of the financial year 2017-18 and advised the banks to concentrate on lending more under priority sector since the progress therein is not satisfactory. He also touched upon NABARD-assisted Schemes and Training Programme for the branch heads of Group Mode of Financing.

Shivand Kapasi, Chairperson of the Committee, reviewed the progress under various government sponsored schemes. He informed the house about various government sponsored schemes implemented through various government departments such as Rajiv Chaithanya Yojana, PMEGP, CMEGP, SULM, NULM, NRLM, etc., and appreciated the progress of the schemes and hoped that with good cooperation and coordination between bankers and government departments, it would not be difficult to show better performance during this financial year.

Francis Borgia, Lead District Chief Manager, being the convener, conducted the meeting and requested the branches and departments to conduct campaigns, special drives for financial inclusion and thanked all the members.

A large number of bankers and officials were present during the meeting.
