Udupi: A 17-year-old drowned in a river at Jomlu Theertha waterfalls near Belve on Tuesday, November 10.

The deceased is identified as Anil Pinto, originally hailing from Chikkamagaluru.

According to sources, as many as 28 students from Holy Cross Students’ Home in Katpadi had been on a picnic to Jomlu Theertha waterfalls. While counting the number of students before getting back onto the vehicle, Anil was found to be missing.

When the group launched a search, Anil’s body was recovered from the water. It is said that he was contemplating to join the seminary.

A case has been registered at Hebri police station.
