Students Seeing a New Teacher Each Week Come Forward to Protest

Udupi: Students are always known to be docile, but not anymore, and especially not when the students of an entire school get to see a new teacher every week, as in the case of the seven decade old Jai Hind Aided Higher Primary School in Bettampady.

One can only imagine what the little souls are put through as they see a new teacher walking into the classroom each week, the frustration of no longer seeing a previous teacher they would have probably liked and grown accustomed to, and worst of all, getting accustomed to a new teacher who is probably strict in comparison with the teacher that they miss.

This calls for immediate action on the part of the management to take all necessary steps to appoint permanent teachers, perhaps treating them in a way that does not tempt them to leave.

The actions of the students have gone to the extent of drawing the attention of the District Deputy Director of Public Instruction, who will hopefully come forward to help the old school take the right measures.

This is in fact, very important, as reports suggest that this has been the situation with the school for the past six years, which makes it high time now that things begin to change.

Besides messing with the emotions of the students, the constant change of teachers has also led to a poor academic performance, which is only obvious from the change in teaching strategies that students would definitely face and find hard to connect with, as they try to get adjusted to a method of a new teacher.

Quality education has become a thing of the past, the education department, though aware of the situation, has done little to help the school with teachers who will stay on and improve its standard of education.

The situation is indeed very serious, with ten students looking forward to their confirmation certificate without which they would be unable to pass the common entrance test (CET), throwing them in further confusion and panic, which will only disrupt their learning and future academic progress.

The question here is, how can an academic institution with so many years to its experience play with the futures of these young children? What’s more, midday meals have also been chaotic in the last couple of days as the school’s convener seems to be unwell.

All this clearly brings to light the fact that the school needs better management, and the children, having seen and tolerated enough till now, have finally come forward in a protest.

There is a saying that crying babies get the milk, which makes it only fair that the fifty-five students of this small school come together to claim for some seriousness on the side of the authorities, which we hope will take some action, and the school can in the future see better days.

Teachers are our second mothers, they say, which makes it unfair that these tender souls get adjusted to a new parent every week.
