Udupi: The Hosa Marigudi Shrine will be renovated with red granite at Kaup at the cost of Rs. 25 crore. The foundation stone for the same was laid on Wednesday, June 24.
The widening of the National Highway congested the temple premises, which lead to the move. The renovated temple will stand in 2.60 acres of land.
It is learnt that all the rituals will be followed systematically and importance will be given to preserving the originality of the ancient sculpture.
On the occasion, Sorake said that, the renovation will be done in three phases. The first phase construction will be of Mari and Uchchangi strines, a ‘rajagopura’ and ‘mukhamantapa’ at a cost of Rs. 10 crore.
The second phase work includes the construction of an administrative office, a managing committee office, a dining hall, a rest house for priests, a guest house, a museum, a toilet complex, a storage room and a spacious parking area at a cost of Rs. 10 crore.
Finally for the third phase Rs. 5 crore would be spent to construct a hall for 1,200 persons, a dining hall for 800 persons and a shopping complex. The state has released a grant of Rs 75 lac for the land. Minister also added that ‘Charitable endowment department’ has released Rs. 15 crore for various works in the state, out of which maximum aid will be used for the renovation of Marigudi temple .
Sorake added that Kaup, now included under municipality and so the it will avail aids for most of the facilities like drinking water, drainage system etc. Tender for the same is called already . Kaup was under Gram panchayath rule till yesterday. Already 15 Crore is released for road development here.
A different government office will be formed here soon for the betterment of the city he added.
