Sports Minister: Udupi district should be one of the top in the State

Udupi: K. Abhayachandra Jain, Minister of State for Sports and Youth Empowerment said on Tuesday that extended facilities will be given to the district for the development of sports.

After the inauguration of various sports construction activities including a basketball court at the Mahatma Gandhi District Stadium, he said that Udupi has one of the most sophisticated synthetic tracks in India. He added that pavilion in the stadium was built at the cost of Rs 1.31 crore and soon an indoor lawn tennis court will be constructed at the cost of Rs 1 crore here.

MLA Pramodh Madhwaraj said that the stadium will be utilized completely, as the inner ring of the synthetic track, will be utilized for a foot ball and hockey ground. Udupi district should be one of the top distrcts in the state, the minister said. “Our aim is to develop it towards international standard”.

He added that seminars will be organised for physical education teachers, students and various sports associations to utilise the provided infrastructure in the right way.
