Udupi: Shiroor seer Lakshmivaratheertha Swamiji, who courted controversies over an array of issue ranging from his claims that Ashtamath seers have fathered children, till row over custody of idols of his Mutt has stoked yet another controversy even in his death.
With sudden demise of the seer, doubts are being raised over the circumstances that may have led to his death. It is said that the seer died on Thursday morning owing to multiple organ failure.
He was admitted to KMC Hospital on Tuesday when he showed symptoms of food poisoning. However, his condition went worse on Wednesday and he died on Thursday despite the fact that he was scheduled to be discharged on Wednesday. This has left people wondering if there could be foul play in the same.
The mortal remains of the seer has been handed over to the police. After postmortem, the mortal remains will be brought to the mutt.
As per sources, the seer has been facing threats to his life after having exposed the misdeeds of the seers of seven other mutts. Suspecting foul play in the seer’s death, Vishwa Vijay Swami, former junior seer of Pejawara Mutt has urged for a CBI probe into the case.
Meanwhile, it is being reported that KMC hospital has released a press note stating that the death of the seer might have been triggered after consuming food laced with poison. The authenticity of the press release has, however, not yet been confirmed.
