Udupi: A fire broke out on Tuesday June 30, at Adi Udupi at shanties of migrant workers, flaming the entire place into ashes.

Around seven shanties were completely destroyed, while 45 shanties in an area of 3 acres have been badly affected.
It is learnt that the fire took place due to a stove in one of the shanties spread due to a sudden breeze. And as these houses were made out of fire prone goods, such as dry coconut, bamboo etc, the flames spread rigorously.
The land was a private land belonging to one Vittal Shetty. The residents – mainly workers and children were away at work, thus no injury was reported.
A lady who noticed the flames informed the fire service. However, as the area is not easily accessible, the fire tenders had difficulty reaching the spot on time. Eventually fire personnel doused the flames.
The loss has been estimated at Rs 2,000 per shanty, altogether about Rs 14,000. Udupi town police have registered a case.
