Udupi: One of the most visited tourist places of Udupi, Malpe beach is under threat due to sea erosion as the sea waves continuously erode the pristine beach of Malpe. Experts have blamed the wind speeds for the erosion, rather than the rain, as they raise the waves and wash them deep into the shore.

The harsh  waves are touching the resting huts which  have been built by the Malpe beach development committee. The huts now lie under water. More than half of the shore is now a part of the seabed. The interlock road on the south side is damaged due to  tidal waves. The North side of the beach severely hit with erosion and the trees have been washed away.

Despite the rough sea, Tourists can be seen venturing into the sea without a thought about the risk to their lives. A few years ago,  the same situation had occurred, and a tourist was washed away but the life guard was successful in saving him.
