Udupi: Udupi City Municipal Council President Meenakshi Madhav Bannaje had called upon all the mothers to make sure that their children aged below five years are administered polio drops twice a year.
She was speaking after inaugurating the Pulse Polio administering programme at Women and Children Hospital at Udupi on Sunday, April 2.
Priyanka Mary Francis Deputy Commissioner of Udupi District said that since 2011 no polio cases have been reported in the country, while there are reports that polio cases are still identified in neighbouring countries.
“We could achieve this feat due to awareness on polio and continued vaccination programmes,” she said.
Udupi Zilla Panchayat vice President Sheela Shetty, District Surgeon Dr. Madhusudan Naik, R. C. H. official Dr. Rama, Rotary President Dr. Suresh Shenoy, Secretary Ramachandra Upadyaya, Rotary Pulse Police in-charge Jaychandra, Hospital Medical officer Dr. Kishori, District Government Workers Association President Subrahanya Sherigar and others were present during the programme.
