Private hospitals should display prices of healthcare: Udupi DC

Udupi: The medical establishments of Udupi district are directed to do something that most hospitals or clinics have never done before, all for the transparency of the health care industry. Udupi Deputy Commissioner, T Venkatesh has instructed these establishments to display the list of services that can be availed along with the prices for the treatments.

It was also announced by Venkatesh that the list should have the fee prescribed by the Government for all types of services. “Cases of vector borne illnesses like dengue, malaria, tuberculosis and other contagious diseases received by private hospitals should be taken note of and the public health department must be immediately informed. The hospitals should also make sure that the treatment for contagious diseases is as prescribed by the Government”, He added.

According to Dr. Rohini, District Health and Family Welfare Officer, 17 medical organizations were registered in Udupi district till the month of August and registrations of 149 health care providers have been renewed.

Dr. Rohini has been instructed by the Udupi DC to dispatch teams to various health care centers to ensure that the follow the various rules of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act 1994.
