Namma Angadi 2017: Reviving traditional arts and crafts at Manipal

Udupi: School of Communication, Manipal and The Concerned for Working Children in association with RSN Infotech will organise the 14th Annual Exhibition and sale of Handloom, Handicraft and Organic Products, “Namma Angadi 2017” which will be inaugurated on March 3, at SOC, near Udayavani, Manipal.

Speaking to media persons at Udupi Press Club, Dr. Nadini Lakshikantha, Director and Professor of School of Communication, Manipal said that Namma Angadi 2017, a CNR initiative of Manipal University will be held at School of Communication on March 3, 4 and 5. The event will be inaugurated at 9.30 am by chief guest Vanita Pai, Director of Art 1st, a foundation committed to creating learning environments that nurture and strengthen the imagination, visual literacy, creative skills in children and educators. She is also the winner of Hindu Young World Good Books Best Author award along with Ritu Khoda for the book Eye Spy Indian Art, a children’s book about Indian art.

She said that Namma Angadi was organised by the postgraduate students of event management and planning at School of Communication in association with Namma Bhoomi and CWC. The event acts as a platform for regional craftsmen to sell their handmade products in order to survive against the stiff competition imposed by commercial brands. This year marks the 14th chapter of the event, wherein as per tradition, handmade and eco-friendly goods manufactured by the artisans of Namma Bhoomi are being sold at the three-day exhibition. SOC has had a consistent and fruitful association with Namma Bhoomi and CWC over the years.

Namma Angadi 2017 will host a plethora of organic products ranging from apparels, furnishings, bed linen, accessories, food items and much more all under one roof at the School of Communication. Every year the event sees a footfall of more than 15,000 people of a varied age group, comprised of residents hailing from Mangalore, Bangalore, Karkala, Udupi and Manipal.
