Udupi: Mystery continues to shroud the missing case of Hotelier Bhasker Shetty as the police seems to be clueless about his whereabouts, even as strong rumours of his death have been making rounds.
Bhasker Shetty, a businessman from Saudi Arabia, who owns Hotel Durga International in Udupi went missing on July 28, reportedly after a fight with his wife and son. Soon, the rumours of his death started making rounds and the pin of suspicion pointed at his wife Rajeshwari and son Navaneeth.
However, on Saturday, August 6 Shetty’s family members had stated that wife-son duo had trapped Shetty and had taken him to an astrologer in Nandalike and charred him to death in the ‘Homa Kunda’ (sacred fireplace) before disposing off the ashes and the debris of the destroyed Homa Kunda to a stream nearby. It is said that wife and son had collaborated with an astrologer named Niranjan Bhat, who is also a partner in the gym run by Navneet, to execute the crime. The astrologer has been absconding over the last several days, while the police have questioned his father in connection to the case.
The Karkala police had recovered debris of the Homa Kunda, but no traces of bones or other human remains were found, it is said.
What is startling is that the car used by Bhasker Shetty remains parked at his residence in Indrali, despite the family claiming that the Shetty couple used to have frequent fights over property issues and a dejected Bhasker Shetty had started living away from his wife and son.
Further, as per sources, Navaneeth, who was pursuing his engineering degree was debarred from the college after he had assaulted his professor, showing his violent streak.
However, the police sources have claimed that while no arrests have been done in the case, investigations have been brisked up. They also said that there is no clarity on what has happened to Bhasker Shetty as of now.
