The popular sports was banned by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences after getting complaints from Animal Welfare Board of India. It was banned at Udupi on November 15 and in Dakshina Kannada district on November 21. “As it is the part of our art and culture maximum measure will be taken to protect sports”, she said.
All the Ministers and Legislators of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district have already opposed the ban.
Regarding he Nade Geethe controversy, the minister said that ‘Nadageethe’ written by Rastrakavi Kuvempu is under controversy regarding its time limit, there are proposal to delete few pages to shorten it, and a committee is formed already, to reduce the time of Nada Geethe.
As it is the matter of bonding and patriotism, she said talks would be held with Chief Minister. The decision will not be based on the committee recommendation alone, but public opinion will also be taken into consideration she said.
