Udupi: A meeting chaired by Pramodh Madhwaraj MLA, under the Karnataka development program, focusing on the Udupi taluk was held on Monday, August 18.

During the meeting, Pramodh Madhwaraj MLA directed the officials to work spontaneously and with transparency . It was decided that a list of people who have applied for housing facilities will be made and the maximum use of available land will be made.
Guruprasad, the Tahsildar said that Udupi alone has received around 292 applications, out of which 49 are genuine. Necessary steps will be taken to provide housing facility to the genuine applicants.
He moreover said that as far as deemed forest is concerned, out of 900 acres available land, 50 % of land should be considered for offering lands to the homeless needy. The district has enough money for all the scheme, still utilization is not happening in the right way, he stated.
Under the Basava Vasati Yojane and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme maximum people should be provided housing and employment, the MLA said
He stated that Udupi is in the 30th position when it comes to the utilization of MGNREGS.
Considering the deaths due to defunct Borewells, the MLA recalling the incidents, strictly instructed the officials to close defunct Borewells and said that it should be closed within this month. There were as many as 363 defunct bore wells in the constituency, of which 84 are pending to be sealed.
The officials of the government hostel said that there are applications for accomdation to the Post Metric hostel in Thottam are more than its capacity. For new accommodation land and building is an issue which should be sorted without delay, they said. To which the MLA replied that though there are fund for the new hostel building, shortage of right land to build hostel is the problem.
He appealed to everyone to come up with the right land area which will be acceptable.
