Udupi: Former president of Tulunadu Rakshana Vedike and JD(S) leader Nischal Shetty (36) died in a road mishap in Kaup on Tuesday night.

The mishap took place in front of Vidyaniketan Group of Educational Institutions. It is said that due to a pothole, Shetty, who was riding his bike along with his friend as pillion, toppled and fell on the road only to be run over by a fish ladden truck.  His friend has suffered serious injuries,

Shetty was the district president of JDS youth wing. He had married last year. He is survived by wife and mother. His father, the late Gunakar Shetty, was a former president of Innanje gram panchayat.
