Jasmine price shoots up with festive season

Udupi: Festive season is here and the Jasmine vendors are surely making hay as the sun shines. Over the last eight days the cost of Jasmine flower has skyrocketed leaving a wide smile on the faces of Jasmine growers and seller.

One ‘Atti’ (four stack rolls) cost anywhere between Rs 1000 to Rs 1200 on Sunday.

Though the cost shot up right at the beginning of Dasara, it further went up with occasions like ‘Ayudha pooja’ etc. The rates are expected to stay high till Vijaya Dashami which is the last say of Dasara.

Meanwhile, flowers like chrysanthemum and gold flower which were available for Rs 20 per piece are now being sold at Rs 40. Cost of chillies and lemon too has shot up as many purchase the lemon chilly chains for ‘Ayudha Pooja’ and for new vehicles.

Jasmine offered by devotees to Goddess Durga especially during Navarathri.
