Karkala: In an embarrassing incident, a few vehicles blatantly flouted traffic rules in the presence of Minister Sorake and other government officials even though sign boards were put up.

The incident occurred at Kabettu Attur junction when the minister had arrived for Guddali Pooja for the new road. MLA Sunil Kumar, former MLA H Gopal Bhandary, town municipal president Rahmath Shaikh, tahsildar Raghavendra, town municipal officer Rayappa and Chandrashekar from PWD Udupi were present but the vehicles were not at all concerned about the rules.

Sign boards have been put up in the town by the district administration as the Kabettu bridge is in bad condition. The bridge is 30 years old and thus heavy vehicle movements have been strictly banned in the junction. But the thing is that the district administration has not mentioned any alternative route for few private buses which ply in this road.

When the programme was going on some of the heavy vehicles were plying on the same road. Seeing this, a few media persons started clicking photos of the vehicles but the minister and the officials ignored the matter.

On this dangerous bridge if accidents occur who is to blame? Why there is no strict enforcement of rules? these are the questions raised by locals. So concerned persons need to look into this matter and resolve the issue soon.
