Udupi: It is very rare that carpenter shark is spotted by the human habitat. However, Thursday March 10 was different as a huge crowd got to view the fish which is also known as sawfish at Malpe here as it was caught in fishnets.
The fish that weighed 250 kgs was accidentally got trapped in the nets of a boat that left from Malpe port for deep sea fishing. The carpenter sharks are an endangered species .
Further, a protected species in India, it is provided protection under Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972.
