Udupi: Illegal building constructed at Kalsanka and preserving drinking water from shiroor and Baje Dam issues dominated the general body meeting of CMC on Saturday, January 31.

The opposition raised questions to the CMC for allowing to construct building illegally, without leaving road margin. In order to brush this issue under the carpet, the CMC Commissioner K. Srikanth Rao was transferred without any one’s knowledge, they alleged.

The new CMC Commissioner D. Manjunathaiah said that the construction at Kalsaka building is proved 100% illegal so the building will be demolished till road margin. He added that he has already directed the engineers to recheck the technical aspects (survey) of the building. No illegal buildings will be allowed here, he assured.

Yuvaraj CMC president said that transfer of K. Srikanth Rao is an official issue, he was transferred earlier, and it was nothing to do with CMC or ruling party.

Opposition also raised the issue on deficiency of drinking water in upper lane areas. During summer the condition will be more pathetic here, they said. The district is dependent on the water source from Baje and Shiroor Dams. They demanded measures to be taken to preserve water at both Dams.

Yuvraj said that all the officials visited the Dams a week ago. The present stock of water in the Baje dam would last for 120 days, he added.
